Francesco’s Travel Diary – Dispatch 5: the solidarity ride runs towards the South

by Oct 16 2024

Francesco is in Puglia and, before stretching out for some challenging stages between Calabria and Sicily, he takes stock of the situation on the first weeks of the solidarity ride after having travelled Italy from North to South.

“I arrived in Puglia and after the first meetings in Barletta and Bisceglie I am now heading towards Lecce where I will stop tomorrow for a short rest before leaving again for the very tiring stages of Calabria and Sicily. How am I? I am quite tired from this long journey but I am happy to have had the opportunity to meet and talk about Isla. I have been to many new places, places where we have never been with our events and all this gives me the opportunity to build new relationships and expand the large Isla family.”

Some questions arise spontaneously in Francesco’ heart:

What do I take away from these first 40 stages? The kindness and care with which I was welcomed, even by those I saw for the first time. The affection of the volunteers and supporters of always and their active involvement in each stage”.

Still:

“What would I willingly give up? The headwinds of the last few days and the dogs that keep chasing me along the country lanes (help :D)”.

And finally:

“What do I expect for the next stages? A lot of tiredness due to the significant differences in altitude of the stages in Calabria, but also the certainty of meeting many new people who, I am sure, will be able to do a lot for our girls”.
